As we worked our way ever inward—matter into atoms, atoms into sub-atomic particles, sub-atomic particles into quantum fields and forces—we lost sight of matter completely. Matter lost its tangibility. It lost its primacy as mass became a secondary quality, the result of interactions between intangible quantum fields. What we recognize as mass is a behavior of these quantum fields; it is not a property that belongs or is necessarily intrinsic to them.
In functional-style programming, functions may both receive and return other functions. Instead of a function being simply a factory or producer of an object, as in traditional object-oriented programming, it is also able to create and return another function. Functions returning functions can result in cascading lambdas, especially in highly concise code. While this syntax may look quite strange at first, it has its uses. This article will help you recognize cascading lambdas and understand their nature and purpose in code.
Someone or something or some combination of people and things is using YouTube to systematically frighten, traumatise, and abuse children, automatically and at scale, and it forces me to question my own beliefs about the internet, at every level
This is why writing down notes on everything I read is an important habit I've sadly let falter. My own preference is a Github repo full of markdown files with notes on books, blog posts, and whatever else I want to save for later. Important syntax rules, term definitions, personal tricks or ideas, quotes or summaries - I write down anything I find inspiring or useful from the texts
The production of ‘A Forest’ is explained in details in the December 04 edition of Sound on Sound Magazine
Git is made for, and encourages, non-linear history. If that puts you off you might be better off using a simpler VCS that only supports linear history.
I think you should keep your history true. Get comfortable with tools to analyse it, and don’t fall for the temptation to rewrite it. The rewards for rewriting are minimal, but the risks are great. You’ll thank me the next time you are bisecting through your history to track down a sneaky bug.
Rich Hickey explained the design choices behind Clojure and made many statements about static typing along the way:
solving a real-world problem => must use non-elegant models
running all the time => must deal with state and time
interacting with the world => must have effects and be affected
everything is changing => must change in ways you can't predict
.
Share an interesting perspective and some stories from my time as a Haskell programmer. I conclude with a design challenge for the statically typed world.
Stefan Tilkov talks to Camille Fournier about making a career as a manager in a software development organization. Camille shares her insights about when or why someone would want to become a manager and how to become good at it. Other topics include different levels of management from tech lead to CTO, the role of one-on-one meetings, and how managers influence company culture.

is her paper from 2014 examining the workings of Rails Girls Berlin from an anthropological perspective. At the core of the paper is a discussion of the impact an environment (or ‘space’) can have on participants. If you’re looking to create a diverse, inclusive work environment, there’s plenty to think about here.
So in that sense, I am already advocating for not really using the specs as-is, at least not without significant work to understand them and how they fit with your requirements
When used carefully and with plenty of planning, JWTs can form the basis of highly scalable and reliable systems. By following the best practice in this article, you should be able to put appropriate protections in place to ensure that your data stays secure.
A lot of Cheatsheets
In a recent article for Harvard Business Review, Daniel Kahneman (and others) describe a simple way to detect bias and minimize its effects in the most common type of decisions people make: determining whether to accept, reject, or pass on a recommendation.
If you're short on time here is a simple checklist that will get you started on the path towards improving your decisions:
